Ep. 4 Housing First

The best way to dramatically improve someone’s life is to provide permanent, good quality housing. Housing First is a service model that doesn’t require adherences to social services, employment, abstaining from drug use, etc. when making decisions about providing homes for unhoused people, since the data reveals that getting people into homes (regardless of their other circumstances) leads to best long-term outcomes.

Voices on this episode include John Copeland, Pastor Seth Kaper-Dale, executive director of Reformed Church of Highland Park-Affordable Housing Corporation, Austin Morreale, director of NeighborCorps Re-Entry Services, and Eileen O’Donnell, executive director of Coming Home Middlesex County. You can read Pastor Seth Kaper-Dale’s fully annotated oral history on the Shelter website.
